This case is the practical application of the Elcano index, which was developed by the Elcano Royal Institute of International and Strategic Studies in Spain. The index measures the degree of interdependence of the economy of a specific country with other countries. The objective of this work is its practical application to the Colombian case using a set of variables that are consistent with the macroeconomic reality of Colombia. A comparison was made against the following countries: Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Ecuador, USA, Spain, Mexico, Peru, and Venezuela. These are the countries with which Colombia has the strongest commercial and economic relations. The results show that its application to the Colombian scenario is valid and that it allows developing major strategies in international trade relations.
