This paper presents the findings of a research study conducted within the frame of the Professional Development Program at Icesi University. This program allowed systemizing and reviewing information about motivational profiles gathered from 1997 to 2004 on a biannual basis. This study profited a great deal from the vast experience of the program with regard to the placement of students in the job market, personalized follow-up interns, and constant relation with companies. The Work Motivation Survey (WMS) enabled us to determine the motivational profile of interns at Icesi University and the specific characteristics of each profile for each academic program. This raises the students awareness of opportunities associated with the knowledge of trends and characteristics of motivational profiles in different disciplines with respect to human talent management in organizations. The conclusions provide an example that shows the university’s experience of this institutional educational project as a generator of motivational factors. It also proposes a series of actions that should be taken in time to react to the expectations and needs for professional developments.
