The role of mathematical competences in the new educational model for the Colombian context

The accelerated growth of society worldwide, has brought with it great technological advances that facilitate the acquisition of new knowledge in the educational environment. From this, education has become a fundamental axis of economic growth, which has generated the development of the training model by competencies in society. This document aims to identify the aspects that are part of the development of competencies in Colombian higher education institutions and the application of mathematical competences for the integral education of students. It is concluded that competency-based training as an educational model has generated great challenges in the development of program content and the integration of methodologies for the acquisition of mathematical competencies, which have not been solved by government policies in the country.
